It has been interesting to explore sustainable cities and the
impacts of cities on the environment. I put together an infographic to
synthesize key themes and findings from my blogs(see below).
When
thinking of the nine planetary
boundaries, it is important to think creatively in formulating sustainable
strategies. While non-urban solutions to anthropogenic climate change seem
obvious, cities are equally important.
I shall
finish how I started, and remind you that "there is nothing unnatural
about New York City". This is a sentiment that is vital to carry
forward in developing sustainable cities for a rapidly urbanizing planet and
strained environmental systems.
This is an infographic I constructed for my blog synthesis. All data can be found in my blog posts. For section 1 see: Escape the heat; Urban Heat Islands, global warming; For section 2 see: Cities and Nutrient Pollution; For section 3 see: Urban Geoengineering Part 1 - Growth and Governance, Urban Geoengineering part 2 - Urban Afforestation and Urban Geoengineering part 3 - Urban Soils and Concrete; For section 4 see: Biodiversity and Cities

WOW! What a great way to summarise and conclude on your blog- visually digestible but conceptually impactful! This whole blog has been thoroughly well-researched, balanced and a pleasure to read.
ReplyDeleteI like how you've added a word of warning in your conclusion- solutions like geoengineering, etc. are all great but we also have to nip the problem in the bud by changing consumption patterns. Do you see this happening in the near future? Do you think enough people know how to lead more sustainable lives, or care enough?
